Applause of People vs. God's Hurrah!

In my prayer journal, I write what is on my heart to the Lord, then write what I believe He is saying in response. The following is an excerpt from last week, the morning after I had spoken at a ladies group in a nearby church:

Thank you, Dear Father, for allowing me to speak last night, for your goodness and grace present there.

Please set me free from trying to impress people. Let me live in the large place with you, where Your fellowship is all I crave, and your joy is mine in abundance. Heal my soul of the need for accolades from humans, in Jesus’ Name.

The truly successful ones in My kingdom, whether anyone knows who they are or not, have learned this secret: to seek after Me and dwell in My heart, and be free from public opinion.

My children will always be different, cut from the fabric of My grace and forgiveness and love, rather than the garments of shame the world wears. You are chosen of Me—why would you care to show off for the applause of mortals?

In all respect to You, Sir, because they can helps us on our way to fulfill our dreams?

If you look to Me for divine connections, I will pt the right people in your path, to spur you on and give you favor. If you try and strive to orchestrate your own plans, you will see but a pinpoint of the light I have for you. Glorious, expansive, nourishing light to guide you in the truth, keep you safe and make you a success.

Teach me how to do it Your way, Lord, Please show me.

  1. Thank you for sharing this, Jeanette. I've struggled with this very thing just this week. It seems we're being pushed by agents and editors to build our platform, to get our names out there, to grow in popularity, even before we're published. I struggle with this because it seems like a lot of pushing ME and MY name, instead of walking humbly with God and pushing his fame and glory. Thank you so much for reminding me that I can rest in him to do the work and carry it through to completion. I'll just be faithful to his calling.

  4. Wonderful post, and a good wake-up call. I started worrying about comments on my blog, etc then realized that God knows where he wants me to go in life. All I have to do is trust and follow Him. No worrying. Be anxious for nothing, delight yourself in the Lord, those are verses I take literally. (well, I take them all literally, lol) This is a beautiful truth Jen. Thanks for the post. :-)

Yes, the pressure is great, sadly from Christians a lot of times.
This is why I preach to myself this way on a regular basis!!!

  8. Thanks Jeanette! This is very effective! It is so hard sometimes to know if what is before me is from God or my meddling.

You are right; it is challenging to discern. Sometimes I don't know until after the fact that my motives were self-serving!
    God's grace is so refreshing.
    Thanks for commenting!
