A Radical, Shocking "What About YOU?"

Every Monday I ask a question, to get to know YOU better. Ready for today’s? What personality traits do you like best about yourself?

Don’t be shocked or outraged—I’m not asking you to brag. We all know that whatever talents we possess came to us as gifts from the Lord. According to Jesus, without him we’d be nothing. With that in mind, it’s okay to say:

I like it that I can make friends with nearly everyone I meet. If you are a rocket scientist, a zoo keeper or a house painter, I will find something to chat with you about, and try to make you feel important and valuable, because YOU ARE! I also like that I love having fun. If there’s an amusing way to mop the floor, pay bills or weed the garden, I will try to discover it or invent it. I know these are gifts from the Lord, and I’m thankful for them. Thankful enough to say, “I like myself.”

Your turn…

  1. Ooo, I like yours!

What personality traits do I like about myself?

Maybe that I'm disciplined. When it comes to certain things, like writing, I can be very disciplined. (Now if only that would carry over into food and exercise!)

  2. I'm empathetic and sensitive. I see potential in things & people.

  3. I love that I can be serious, but I don't FEEL serious. Sure, I have my moments...but I'd rather laugh :) I learned when I was younger that I could diffuse situations with laughter. It can also make painful situations hurt less. And I love that some of my most intimate times with my husband have been when we were laughing so hard we were in tears.

Break out the Mary Poppins soundtrack any minute now :)

  4. I guess it would be the gift of loving animals. I've found when you love someone's animals THEY feel loved.

  5. Oooh! I like finding trying to find out the strengths in others much better than myself! I can totally see that you are good at the things you mentioned! They don't surprise me at all!

Okay, so if I MUST pick out something I like about myself to share, I think it would be my go-getter-ness. Once God reveals his plan for me, I go at it with gusto! I like that he's given me a no-nonsense, I'm-just-going-to-get-the-job-done personality! It helps with the hard tasks or when I'm not particularly in the mood. I just put my head down and do the work! Sometimes, however, I have to remember to stop and have fun!

  6. I love my God given wisdom. I know it is from God because I began asking for it decades ago. My mother used to tell me all the time how smart I was. You won't see that reflected in my high school transcripts. I was very intelligent, but if I didn't enjoy the subject I really did just enough to get by.

However I have learned to appreciate intelligence and wisdom to discern the truth about the world we live in. I love the fact that I can sit around people with their doctorates and degrees and have them tell me how impressed they are when they find out I don't have one. It's not pride talking but appreciation that God has done that.

  7. I can totally believe yours Jen!

I love that I can laugh at myself. For years I struggled with self esteem. After a makeover from the Lord (from the inside out)- I feel like a new woman.

    Love your questions!

  10. I have been told that I am an encourager. I enjoy trying to build others up. Also, that I am peaceful..... hard to believe since my life is so emotionally chaotic, but I guess I am able to bring that to others. :O)

  11. I think that I was a typical good girl in school; in terms of study, discipline, extra curricular activities etc. I never ever disobeyed my parents.....and I am proud of my childhood:)

  12. Yours are great! For me, I think I've always been told that I'm "nice" or "sweet". While that used to sound almost boring to me, I've learned to embrace it! Truth is, I do try to be nice to everyone and give an extra smile. Now I see it as trying to be a blessing to people.

  13. One of my Spiritual Gifts is encouragement. Saturday, I got my hair cut. The woman whom I go to grew up across the street from us. She shared somethings with me, one of them she hadn't talked to anyone else about. Then I went to return some books to a dear friend. We got to talking about things that bother us right now. She has told me she shares things with me and only me.
I also empathize and sympathize with those God allows me to cross paths with.

  16. Hi Jen -

Oh, you described yourself to a "T." I love chatting with you. :)

Er, what about me? When I decide to do something (like writing a book), I throw myself into it 100%. Helping others feel loved and accepted is something else I try to do.

    Blessings,
    Susan

  18. I think that I can listen well. Although, I do have to fight against interjecting too much of my thoughts, sometimes!

Congratulations on the award from Maria at Life Lessons.

  19. The personality you display here is certainly full of warmth, love and humour. It's exactly how I picture you being in real life.

I'm told I have discernment as a gift... when I meet people in person I often see through the outer shell to their inner motivations. I'm not sure that's necessarily a positive characteristic I want to cultivate.

  20. Oh, I like yours, too. I have good discernment--my first impressions are usually correct. Which leads to the second, I guess. I am good at figuring out strategies to get from point A to B. I can see things in the picture that other people can't. Sometimes, of course, that leads to a bad trait--impatience with other people!

  21. I could see that in you, Jeanette. you seem so friendly online.

First, let me thank you for reminding me to pay my bills. I can't put those off any longer.

Second, to answer your question, what I like most about me is that I'm generally compassionate unless someone really ticks me off. LOL.

  22. Jen, I love the way you make blogging more fun. It's always a delight to visit.

I like it that I'm a morning person, even before coffee, I can carry on a discussion.

I try to encourage people, all the time. I like to organize and be neat.

  23. Wow, before coffee? You amaze me, Nancy.

  24. What I like about myself is that people rarely annoy me. It's nice to not have to deal with being annoyed by someone. *grin*
Now, I'd love to have some of Katie's discipline and some of your free spirit! :-)
