What Abou YOU? Nothin' Doin'

Every Monday I ask a question, to get to know YOU better. Ready for today’s? Do you allow yourself the luxury of doin' nothin'?

As I watched my husband walk accross the parking lot to zip into the market for some fruit, I wondered what I could do for the five minutes I was alone in the car. Grab the novel I'd started and find out how Martina escaped? Journal? Pray? I decided on nothing. Exhausted from two long trips in a row, I was emotionally and physically spent. Surely I didn't need to cram every minute full of activity.

How yummy to sit and DO NOTHING. Although it only lasted five minutes, I felt refreshed and relaxed when Kevin returned to the car with my grapes. I should do this more often. I think I may be more productive if I allow myself time to think once in awhile.

What about YOU?

  1. It's refreshing for sure. It's more of the mind relaxing, I feel, than the body relaxing that does the trick.

  2. I treasure those mindless moments where my body seems to collapse and my thoughts are fleeting. How refreshing it is!

  3. Sometimes too much. I enjoy massages a little too much and wish they could be more often. :O)

  4. That is a wonderful luxury; actually, it's probably more of a necessity than we know. Why do we think we must always be humans doing instead of human BEings??

  5. This is a luxury that I have come to appreciate more as a mother. When the children are playing and content, and I can sit without rushing to their sides.

It's in these perfect moments I can exhale:)

  6. My women's group recently challenged me to spend a day doing nothing to help ease my mind about matters. I didn't quite get there but have let my goals go for now, and just be in the moment, doing what I'm being led to do, rather than my own agenda. It's hard!! But I'm feeling lighter in spirit. Being still is important to stay connected with ourselves, and God's plan for us, I believe.

  7. I have a hard time doing that--will for five minutes but I mean longer. This morning I actually stayed in bed until after 8. I usually get up at 7! IT was heaven.

  8. I do more often now that my kids are grown. I'm better when I do take a little time.

  9. Hi Jen -

I don't "do nuthin" as often as I should. Even while watching TV or a movie, I'm crocheting or puttering around. I've become "Miss Perpetual Motion."

Thanks for the reminder to sit back and REST.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  10. Such stolen moments are delicious! Rather than use them to think, I like to push every thought away, close my eyes, and focus on an imaginary black velvet sky. The times those restful moments are most valuable is when I'm in the midst of frenzied activity, and of course those are the situations when I don't think I have time to stop for a short break. ::sigh::

  11. I don't enjoy "nothing" moments very often, but when I do, I always am refreshed.

  12. I usually do something every minute, even if it's just sitting and holding a kiddo. I don't do Nothing well though. LOL
Now hubby....he has it down pat. *grin*

  13. I chose to sit in a car to wait for my husband Sunday. I read a prologue. I think I need to pray more. Waiting and praying: don't they go hand in hand?

  14. Jeanette:
At one time a co-worker and friend told me she didn't think I knew how to relax. She was right.
Sometimes, I have my best thoughts or ideas come to me when I am just sitting, doing nothing.
