Trusting in the Little Things

I had a meltdown when my new kitten wailed over a sore paw, thinking I may have to take him to the vet on the same weekend we're returning our granddaughter home--a ten hour drive each way.

I panicked when my beloved laptop had a loading glitch and I thought I couldn't check emails, blog, or go on Facebook.

What shamed me was the realization that I wigged out and worried more over a computer and a kitten than I had when I'd gone in for extra photos a few weeks ago to determine if I had breast cancer. So what is up with that?

My husband shot it home when he said, "It's easier to trust God for the huge life and death matters than the little things we think we can handle on our own." Aha.

Truth is, we can't handle anything on our own. And if we think we can, it may take a computer bust or a bee-sting on a cat's paw to show us how frail and dependent we are. The good thing is, God never loses patience with us. He's always there to help.

He gave us the perfect idea to fix our computer problem; my kitten is recovering; I don't have cancer. But the important issue is none of the above. It's learning to trust Him, for little and big things. He's God. I'm not.

Are little or big issues niggling you today? Please let me pray for you:

"Lord of all mercy and God of grace, speak to my friend's heart Your words of calm and wisdom. Point them in the direction of your embrace. May they stay there until they see how big You are, and how small their problems are compared to You. Help us all to trust you, even in the little things. In Jesus' Name, so be it."

  1. How beautiful! I am so touched...thank you for reminding us time and again that we don't have to solve it all by ourselves, we aren't supposed to. That He is there. :)

  2. Trust. Ah, there's a biggie.

I woke up praying hard that I love him more today than I did even when I first discovered his grace. I worry about even that...that that's not showing up in my actions.

    (Maybe worrying is the problem.)

  3. I think you are right. The issues we think, "we" are capable of fixing and can't to pile on the worries. Little foxes, right?

  5. I can relate; I have been known to go nearly ballistic over a silly little thing. Sometimes it is triggered by a bigger issue under the surface, and sometimes not. I'm a work in progress when it comes to dealing with big and little things. :)

    Hugs and blessings,
    Karen

  6. Karen, it's hard for me to imagine you going ballistic. You're the Calm One! :)

Good and timely word, Jeanette. Your husband really did shoot it home, and you can tell him I said so.

    Thanks, dearie!

  7. Jeanette:
We get bogged down with deciding what are the big things in life because we are human. We can only see what is right in front of us. God can see it all. Trust is the issue. We have to learn to give things over to God, rather than getting ourselves 'wrapped around the axles' over things.

  8. Oh, Jeanette! I can totally relate!

It's much easier for me to handle "big" things thru God than it is for me to handle little things on my own. What a great reminder to trust our Lord in ALL matters!

  9. Thank you for the prayer. Beautiful! Yes, we do need to look to Him for the little things AND the big things. I shall remember this as my computer begins to over heat and crash again...:) I praise God too, for your good news.

  10. Hi Jen -

I like both you observations and Kevin's.

When something gets me down, I look back to see what triggered that feeling. Often, I discover the incident reminds me of another situation that caused great pain.

The remedy: exactly what you said about trusting God with the big and the small issues.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  13. Hi, Jeanette! Thanks for connecting with me on Facebook and for becoming a Follower on my blog! It's great to meet you!

This is a great post - and so true! It's easy to try and handle the little things, instead of giving them to God, and just trusting him with the big things. What a burden is lifted when we give it ALL to him! I love your photo here: it makes me want to be wherever that is.

And thanks for the prayer! How lovely.

I have bookmarked your blog and will come back again!

    Thanks again for connecting! :)
