De-junking

One of my goal's this year is to de-junk my house, basement, and garage. We have way too much stuff!

I first heard the term de-junk from cleaning expert Don Aslett, in his book Clutter's Last Stand. That's when I became convinced that clutter was an enemy of my sanity, and I've been at war with it ever since. But lately it seems to have crept back in, especially in my closet and my emotions.

So, I cleaned out my clothes--about 25 pieces of them--and am working on managing my emotions, with the help of Joyce Meyer's book, Living Beyond Your Feelings.

Sometimes good can crowd out best. If I own so much I can't find anything, I waste time. If I let my emotions rule my life, I'm out of control. I need to get back to my first love, Jesus, and the realization that I am His princess.

That's enough. That fills my heart, so I can get rid of the clutter.

And you?

  1. I'm with you, Jeanette! Let's be done with this stuff (and then watch and pray that we "enter not into (future) temptation")!

  2. I went on a massive purge this past summer and got rid of tons of contractor bags' worth of junk. Took a ton more to Goodwill. Passed some stuff on. It was liberating, even though more than a week's sweaty work. Made myself a nicer office space with actual storage areas. :)

  3. Woke up to 4 inches of water in my basement. Guess where I'm dejunking? :)

  5. We've started a de-clutter project for the basement and garage too.

I think we carry all the junk around and it's one big stress.

I loved that Joyce Meyer book!

  6. I finished a major de-clutter project a couple of years ago. I think it's time for a second go-round. :)

  8. We must be soul mates. I love Don Aslett's books and Clutter's Last Stand is my favorite. I need to read it at least once a year, to remind myself that clutter is ugly and to keep clutter-free. Soon, I need to do another purge and be ready for spring. Thanks for the reminder.

  9. God is all about this in my own life. I'm very anxious to hear how you like that book and what your big take-away will be. Please fill me in once you're through it.

I think you're beautiful the way you are, but the more you de-junk, the more lovely you'll become. That's my two cents. :)

    Hugs...

  10. Jeanette,

I can't concentrate on a task if my house is cluttered. My hubby can attest to how often I de-junk our place. :)

  12. Jeanette,

De-junking is the way to go. I learned to de-clutter a few years ago when I moved into our present home. I realized how much “junk” I owned—some things I had forgotten about and other things that brought back bad memories, thus being in the way physically and emotionally.
It’s a win-win situation if can remove from our lives the items we no longer need and donate them (if possible) to people who may find joy in our unwanted goods.

And I love Joyce Meyer! I quote her every now and again on my blog.

Wishing you happy reading and productive de-junking! :-)
