Your Reading Habits

I'd be lying if I told you the only reason I write is to glorify God. I write because it feels good. It scratches a huge itch in my soul for creative expression, for significance, for connection with others on a level of understanding that can't be acheived by mere converstation.

And for you.

Yep. I write because I want to enrich your life, help you discover the bottomless heart of God, and add more laughter to your days.

I realize you read more than humorous inspiration, though. And I'd like to know. . . what are your reading habits?

What genre do you mostly read?

When do you read?

Do you like long or short books and/or articles?

What keeps you reading long after the clock says "bedtime"?

Do you think a humor/devotional writer could pen a succesful novel?

And speaking of reading, I just got word that my publisher is offering one of my books free on this

Goodreads Giveaway, through Thursday, January 31. You could be the winner!

Yes, romance heightens the allure for me, too.

  3. Hi Jeanette, I like this. Your writing does satisfy a certain desire. . . yeah, like a favorite ice cream cone. And I think you could write whatever God gave you a mind to. As for what I read. . . mostly nonfiction, devotionals, books on a deeper walk with God more or less. . . apologetics, mysticism, I love to read about the Fathers of the Catholic Church. . .I do read some novels, but toss most of those aside before they are half read. I usually read two or three at once--I'm impatient to begin those waiting on my desk so I pick up and begin before the one I'm currently reading is done. The old classics are my favorites with novels I confess. There's nothing quite as good as Jane Eyre and The Tale of Two Cities. http://www.writemomentswithgod.blogspot.com

    1. Rose: I also read several at once. To read only one at a time seems too tame!

Aha. Lovable characters draw us women every time, don't they?

    1. Thanks, Barb! You are one of my best encouragers.

I love those genres, too. And there's something about curling up to read at night that's extra fun, huh?

  9. I like to read mysteries and children's books. I also like non fiction. I read as much as I can. Mostly I enjoy shorter material, though I like novels much better than short stories. It's the getting into it part over and over again with short stories.

I think you could write anything you wanted to write. A funny novel would be delicious.

  11. I try to diversify my reading from history to novels to crime. When I am in a semester though, my fun reading time is minimal and work stuff takes over.

I do like have a Kindle as now much of the time spent waiting to pick-up a child at an activity or school can be spent reading.

  12. Hi Jen,

I have eclectic tastes from non-fiction to fiction. I'm currently reading Jody Hedlund's latest book. Reading happens at the gym, at my mother's house while she's busy, waiting for an appointment, and whenever I have a few minutes to spare.

Can a devotional writer pen a novel? Ahem, I did. :)

    Blessings,
    Susan
