Why Does Turning Sixty Bother Me?

In three days I will celebrate a big birthday. Turning sixty bothers me a little, and I'm not sure why.

It's not the extra sags under my chin or the pains in new places. It's not that I'm afraid to die in another forty years or so. I know where I'm going.

Perhaps I wish I'd made a few different choices. Laughed more and stressed less. Listened more and talked less. Forgiven faster, sang louder, danced longer.

The one thing I have learned in the last sixty years, that no one on this nutty earth will ever rip from me: God is faithful.  Even when we mess up, He stays good and loving and true to His word.

I think I will celebrate, after all! Bring on the cake. . .

  3. I agree with Barb, it is just a number. In theory anyway. LOL I can relate to some degree - I had difficulty turning 50, and haven't really accepted the fact that it happened, even now that I am 54. :)

May the Lord continue to bless and keep you. I know He has great plans for you! Have a wonderful birthday! xo

  4. Jeanette: As I turned 50, everyone was dogging me about it. The women's Bible study I was a part of threw me a party, The gifts they gave me all related to being 50 and they told me how they would apply to my new age. At 60, I felt the pangs of my muscles talking to me more regularly than I wanted to hear from them. Next spring, I will cross that next "important birthday":they all end in zero. And I don;t know how I will feel. Yes, all these ages are just numbers but they can impact us in different ways.

  6. Happy Birthday, Jen! Haven't you heard that 60 is the new 40? BTW, I'd never guess my favorite redhead was more than 40 anyway.

  8. So how did you do turning 60? I did in March and didn't talk to anyone for one day. LOL Then I decided 60 is still young and I have many years to do so much still!
