Dusting Under the Teacups, Weeding, and Changing Diapers

Do you enjoy dusting under the teacups? Or, if you are not a teacup type of person, how about pulling weeds, or changing diapers?

All are necessary chores for the health of our environment or families. But, not all of us enjoy these tedious or dirty tasks. Which brings me to writing.

I am not a detail person, as many writers are. I love to write, feeling the flow of the words from my heart onto the page. Going back fourteen times to redo a sentence is too much like picking up every teacup to dust under it, rather than just swiping the rag around it! I know it’s dirty under there, it needs to be cleaned, no one else is going to do it, but I just hate the tedium. Nevertheless…

It’s my teacup, and I will pick it up and do whatever dusting is needed, regardless of how I feel about it!!! I believe that’s part of growing up: doing things you don’t really like to do, but you must. And with a positive attitude. Ouch!

Blessings on your dusting, diapering and revising for your Audience of One this week,
Jen

  1. Hi Jeanette,
I just dusted under my teacups too! I had 90,000 plus words to delve through. But I persevered and God made me stronger through it. But, boy, does it feel good to have that done!! Once it's done we can look back and see how much we've grown through the process, but while we're in it the process can become tedious!

You've been in my thoughts. Still praying for you!

  3. Great point, Jen! Yes, I need to dust... LOL I've been putting it off because I'm like you a bit. I just like to sit and write. Sigh. But the cleaning must happen.

Jessie; I know. That's what i think God invented kids for, but when they leave home, it's dusty once more...

  5. First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. (I'm catching up on my blog reading today.) Sincere prayers for you and your family.

Secondly, I do enjoy weeding the garden. I don't know why. It's dirty, painful, hot, annoying, but I get such a sense of satisfaction out of knowing the weeds are gone!

  8. Dear Jill; Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers.
Once i force myself out to the garden, i enjoy weeding, too. The tugging and breaking free of those ugly, nasty nourishment-theives is so rewarding to me! Thanks for commenting,
    Jen

    T. Anne:

    Terri:
Good for you! I think the fun part of editing is when you come up with a line or a word that just sings on the page-- so rewarding.
We are doing well, and i know it's from everyone's prayers. Thank you so much!
