My two “Woohoos!!” for today are:
I had a check waiting for me in the mail when I got home from work today. This is for an article I sold as a result of meeting with an editor at a conference in November, 2008. It’s the first article I’ve sold this year! Thank you, Lord!
I won Jaime’s contest on her blog, for writing a story about how me and my husband met. I am so excited I can’t stand it!!! But we must go on for this important announcement:
The winners of my Pitch Critiquing contest:
Jody: I appreciate your idea about using some chapter titles in the pitch for my first book; why didn’t I think of that? Thank you!
Jessica: I was so jazzed when you said my WIP sounds like a reality show, and plan to work it into my pitch. What a great hook! Thanks!
Angela: Your idea to show enthusiasm and excitement is very helpful. I will improve on that. Thank you!
Karin: I needed to hear what you said about selling myself to an agent or editor, with just a couple of sentences about the books as a hook. Holley Gerth had told me that awhile ago, and I’d forgotten it, so thanks for the reminder!
Susan: The changes you made in the pitch were perfect! Thanks for your input and willingness to do this, even though you can’t post on the blog. I appreciate you!
And the grand prize winner is….
KARIN!!!
Although you did not change my pitch per se, the advice to sell myself was just the thing I most needed at this time. I tend to focus on all the details, and forget the main point, which is how I come across to people. So, this was valuable and God-sent.
To everyone who entered, I appreciate all your time and effort in reading and critiquing these! I am sorry I didn’t have prizes for everyone! Thanks for your kindness and help.
To Jody, Jessica, Susan, Angela and Karin: please email me your addy’s and I will send your prizes right away. Well, after I get paid on Tuesday of next week, that is! My email address is jeanettelevellie(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks again for your help!
Blessings, Jen
I'm so glad you're excited, Jen! :) And I haven't had a chance to stay up on reading blogs but this sounded like an interesting discussion!! keep at it! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the winners! And have fun perfecting your pitches, Jen. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have my e-mail, right?
Oh, Jeanette! How exciting! It's such a thrill to get a check in the mail for something you wrote, isn't it? I get excited whenever I sell any of the children's devotions that I write. Even though the checks are small, it's still so-o-o exciting! So, I'm excited with you today!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are nearly ready for your conference! It's getting close! I'll look forward to hearing some blog posts about it after you get back!
Have a great weekend!
Jaime:
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouragement! We know you have to go to meetings and earn a paycheck, but we've missed you in bloggy land!
Bless you,
Jen
Jessica: Thanks, I will have tons of fun, I'm sure. All the ideas were so helpful.
Yes, I have your email. Happy weekend,
Jen
Jody: I was pretty well ready for the conf, 'til i got my eval and crit from the editor on my first book. Looks like it needsa about a year's worth of work! Ugh!! But, i will go ahead and pitch it anyway, and see what happens.
Thanks for rejoicing with me; your'e a doll.
Blessings, Jen
I just popped over from Jody's blog and am so glad I did. I'm going to check out a few of your past posts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJill: Wow, thanks! What an encourager you are!
ReplyDeletePlease come back; i will check out your blog, too!
Happy Weekend,
Jen
Congrats on the news!!!!! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh, sounds like you received some wonderful feedback. I missed your pitch post due to the wedding, Jen. Sorry. But you are so well loved that I can't think of anything else to add. It all seemed to get covered. Aren't we surrounded by awesome helpers!
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying for this conference and you.
Woo hoo! Thanks :) I'm glad I was able to contribute something that will help you (in just a couple of weeks - wow!).
ReplyDeleteSee you in Wheaton - I'll be the tall one with the cute shoes and deer-in-the-headlight expression ;)
PS - I LOVE pens. I have a bucket of them. My goal is always to use them up faster than I can collect them. That hasn't happened yet, but it gives me a purpose :)
ReplyDeleteTerri: Thanks, you are so gracious. Happy Weekend to you,
ReplyDeleteJen
Eileen: We missed you, but we were happy for you at your neice's weddings. Thanks for the prayers! I'll take all i can collect!
Jen
Karin: You are so welcome! I am a pen nut myself. Working in an office supply store keeps me in stock, since i get a discount!
Blessings, Jen
