The A Word Helps Us Acheive the G Word

What is it about being accountable to someone that keeps us on track? When we share our goals, we are more likely to stay committed to the direction our life is taking, even if it’s a tiny portion of our life.

When I was in Overeaters Anonymous, I had a partner I called us each night, telling her what I ate that day. It helped me stick to my eating plan, and she encouraged me with verbal applause and suggestions.

The same can be true of sharing our writing goals. Others can help us stay committed to our plan if we know that they know what our plan is.

With that principle in mind, here’s my goal for this weekend: I’d love to get to 50% on my WIP. Right now I’m at 30%.

Do you have a writing goal or two you’d like to share? Do tell.

God’s gracious favor rest upon you as you write for your Audience of One,
Jen

  1. Hi Jen, I wish I had a writing goal right now. But I'm in limbo still with my next book. And some days it drives me bonkers!! I'd really like to get started. But then I'm trying to just enjoy the last couple weeks of summer and having my mom visiting and celebrating my children's birthdays. I know soon enough I'll be back in the word count tally! And I will definitely benefit from the accountability! Have a wonderful weekend getting your goal met!

  2. Great wisdom. So many areas of our lives could benefit from having someone to hold us accountable with directness and love.

  3. Goals:
Have first draft of WIP finished by Sept. 1.

Have third novel written by next spring.

Have both edited and overhauled by summer, 2010.

    :D

    Good to write those down.

  4. I need to have first draft of The Unlikely One done by Sept. 1, to get ready for conference. You're so right, having an accountability someone is so helpful!

  8. I'm heavily editing two from my series. One is done, but I can't stop polishing and the other is just plain being edited. My third in the series is my official WIP. I'm so in love with this cast of characters it almost too fun to write!

  9. Good luck with your goal! I have a new WIP that I am struggling with. The first few chapters are always hard for me so I'd really like to get motivated on that within the next week. I am also working on editing another manuscript and I'd REALLY like to have that done in two weeks. Busy, busy!

  11. I hope you get to your goal. You've stated it, now you have to do it, right? How lucky to get a phone call when you were losing weight. That must have been a true blessing.
My goal is just to be as faithful a bloggeer as I can be and to remember, as your title says, that the most important thing is my audience of One.
