Talking to Yourself

Would you believe
you believe you
more than you believe
anyone else?

Need to read that again?

Let me explain…

If a close friend says, “You are talented, smart and lovable,” and you say, “Nah. I’m just ordinary,” you will remain ordinary.

You’ve imprisoned your potential by your limited belief in your abilities and the God in whose image you were made.

On the contrary, if others, even well respected friends and relations tell you:

“You can’t do that. You’re not smart, talented or young enough” and you say,

“Oh yes, I can. Just hide and watch,” you’ll get the job done.

You’re bound to prove them wrong by your confidence and determination.

What you believe and tell yourself

influence your life

more than what anyone else says says about you or to you.

What do you believe about you?

What do you tell yourself?

What are these beliefs based upon?

  1. I believe the Bible and tell myself verses when I feel bad. Depending on my mood. There's more than one verse for every mood, you know. *grin*

  2. I used to believe the lies of my past, ya know the kind your peers tell you when your in school. Now I'm learning to believe what God says about me.

  3. Very Thought-provoking! And I just got up:) LOL
I had this hard-fast set of beliefs about myself until more recently. I thought I could get through anything thrown my way. I still am with God's help but some things--I was surprised that I caved--like the job. It wasn't me and it makes me wonder who I am after all. I think sitiuations come up and we get this chance to look at and evaluate ourselves again depending where we are in life.

  4. One of my absolute favorite verses is Colossians 2:10: "And ye are complete in Him..." No matter how badly I feel about myself, no matter how I may have 'messed up', God loves me no matter what.
Today, I am "complete in Him!"

  5. I believe I'm His and that washes over any ugly or inaccurate thing I've ever thought that contradicts that.

    Bless you!

  6. Beautiful post!
I believe that God is my Father and I can do anything with His help.

    Thanks for reminding me!

Hey, stop by my place today. I posted late but really want to share a poem by Mary Oliver called, "Lead" in light of the Gulf oil spill.

On a brighter note, Happy Weekend!

    Hugs,

  7. Yes, I had to read that twice. Loved the picture. Wish I could say that I have that good of a relationship with my mirror. I am progressing in that area though. I do speak good things to myself. As Jessica comments, I let the Bible tell me who I am. Good questions Jeanette.

  8. I believe that God loves me. He listens to me when I ask for his guidance, I can't hear his responses but I can see it in the form of happenings in my life.

I believe that God could not show that he loves me in person, so he gave me my Mother:)

  11. I believe Jesus loved me and died for me, but sometimes I have trouble believing I'm that good. These beliefs-first one based on truth, the second one-feelings. Good questions. Have a great weekend.

  13. I have always been able to take criticism better than a compliment. When growin' up my daddy would say I can't and I would show him that I could. I believe that I am a talented unique creature of God and through Hid I can do all things. Nuff said......

You have yourself one fabulous Friday, sweetie.

  14. A good perspective on true human nature. We somehow want to oppose what other people say about us, good or bad. If we work on what we really believe ourselves to be, it wouldn't matter what anyone else says. We will know if they're right or not and we can respond in truth. Thanks for the honest look into ourselves. God bless.

  15. I'm learning more and more how to make my self-talk more positive. I find that singing my favorite Christian songs in my mind helps. They almost serve as a "soundtrack" to whatever I'm doing.

    Another wonderfully inspiring post!

  16. Jen:
Thank you for your thoughts on this very personal topic. If we listen to the naysayers, we won't get very far in this life.

  18. I know I have to challenge a few of my belief's as God did not design me to be small. But I still tend to hide, fearful I'm not good enough to shine. Remembering I'm not honouring God at those moments, helps for sure. Thank you for this post!

  19. I will forever be a work in progress and will continually make mistakes. I have learned not to listen to what others say about me. The only one I am trying to please is my Heavenly Father!

    Blessings~

  20. lately, I've caught myself saying the typical "Oh, don't take my picture! I'm too fat/grey/fill in the blank. Then I realize I'm saying these things in front of my three beautiful daughters, and I do not want them ever putting themselves down that way. Blessed to be alive and have two legs to stand on in photos--I'll take that and be thankful!
