What About YOU? Nightingale or Chickadee?

Every Monday I ask a question, to get to know YOU better. Ready for today’s? Are you an early bird or a night owl?

When we first married, I loved to sleep in as late as possible, sometimes ‘til noon.

We often stayed up late watching old Burns and Allen reruns

(If you don’t know who they are, you need to find out. Click on the above link for a fun blast to the past).

When I got a job as a teacher’s aide, I had to start work at 8:00 a.m.
Two years later, we began adding babies to the mix, and needing all the rest I could manage, I switched from a nightingale

 to an early rising chickadee.

Now I’m usually in bed by 9:00 p.m. and am up before 5:30 a.m. Even on weekends when I can sleep in, I rarely get up any later than 7:00. As they say, the early bird gets to the blogs first.

Your turn…

  1. I'm definitely a chickadee! Same as you, when I had kids and started getting up early, my internal clock got re-wired! And after years and years of being up early, I can't sleep in either! Sometimes I wish I could!

  2. I'm definitely a chickadee too! I'm in bed around 8 or 9 and up between 4 and 5. After daily devotions and tea, I'm out for my morning walk before 6 AM.

  3. Early bird big time and if the worm means serving my kids breakfast...then yes, I get that! ;)

Good to be back in blogland.

  4. So far, 100% chickadees. And nightengales out there?

  5. Chick, chick, chickadee all the WAY!!!

  6. I hate mornings!!! But now I go to bed early for my husband who gets up at 5 and I get up at 7 and still hate it. I love to sleep in but the older my body gets, the harder it seems to be to do it. Why on earth is that??

  7. I Love morning!! Love, love, love the quiet newness of it. It's when I spend time with God. I'm most definitely an early-bird.

  8. Oh yes, I got re-wired. I used to stay up so late reading, but now, I am a dead head if I don't get in bed by 10 or 10:30pm. I get up early...5:00am when I am working...about 7am when I am not. :)

  9. I'm the chickadee, chickadee, chick-a-dee-dee. My hubby is the night owl. :O)

  10. I am a nightengale but forced to be a chickadee.

  11. So many chickadee's! I'm flexible and it usually depends on my hubby's work schedule. He gets off late now so I usually stay up late to see him. It definitely makes me a nightengale right now--and I have to admit, I'm more productive in my writing that way :D Less distractions.

  12. I'm more of an early bird...and have lots of worms to prove it. Haha. Working makes me stay in the habit. I can stay up late on occasion, but feel it in the am.

  13. Hi Jen -

I love that twist you gave to a cliche. :)

I'm a combo. Hmm, I guess that would be one strange-looking bird.

Lately, I've been staying up until 10:30 - 11:00 PM, but I get up at 7:30 AM. If I go to bed early, I have trouble getting to sleep.

  14. OK Jen, I'm neither one. I'm not the world's best sleeper, so I try not to make early morning appointments. I'd rather be a chickadee, but I guess I'll settle as an owladee.

  15. Some mornings I get up at 6:30 for the baby, but when I'm not working I usually get up about 9:00. As for bed, I can go anywhere from 11:30 to late at night. That's when I can't sleep or am reading.

I guess you'd call me a nightingale mostly. The thing is, I am perfectly awake once I'm out of bed and very pleasant. Same at night. My grumpy time is about 3:00 pm.

  16. Jen:
You aren't going to believe this but I go from being a nightingale to being a chickadee.
If I need to get up early, I can.( around 7) but I also am awake earlier than that (5:15 -6:30) but I like the TV shows that go off at 11:00 or 11:30. If I take a nap during a show, I am not sleepy when I should be, so I read until I become sleepy. My husband and son are truly nightowls. So, I am somewhat weird in this respect. I like the early morning hours because I get uninterrupted quiet time for my devotions and Bible time and some writing.

  17. Well, I love mornings, but I find I'm up late too. :) :( (should I frown or smile?)

When I'm inspired or busy or enjoying an evening activity, then I stay up late, usually anywhere from 10 to midnight, sometimes later. Still get up early tho. Rarely sleep later than 7:30.

So-o-o what does that make me? LOL

  18. A night owl ...hands down. I feel good during nights. I don't know what is it. So, sometimes just to keep feeling "good" I engage myself in something or the other to extend the times span of me staying awake. But yes, when ever I wake up early I don't grumble because it gives me a dash of freshness...the cool breeze n all ;) So may be I am adaptive :))

Oh, it's YOU! I'm so happy to see you here today, and look forward to reading your comments.
