Every Monday I ask a question, to get to know YOU better.
Ready for today’s?
As a child, what did you aspire to be when you grew up?
In first grade, I admired my sweet, youthful teacher so much I wanted to emulate her and teach school. By the end of my first year in college, I’d changed my mind more times than a hermit crab changes homes, from a gourmet chef to a journalist; from an opera singer to a service woman.
The one thing I said I’d never be was a preacher’s wife!
God sure has a creative sense of humor, doesn’t He?
Your turn…
Good to know:) All of us have gone through similar times. God sure has his own surprising plans!
ReplyDeleteEven at a young age, I wanted to be a writer. I also wanted to be a marine biologist during the week I watched Shark WEek on the discovery channel. I wanted to be a cartoonist and a child psychologist and a world traveler (not sure how I would have made money on that one). I never wanted to be a teacher, and look what I am.
ReplyDeleteYes, God is indeed funny!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a vet or an actress when I was little.
Actress makes me laugh b/c I'm horrible at bluffing.

It bounced around for me, too. An archaeologist, a special ed teacher from a young age, then I was interested in Occupational Therapy, and psychology. Now I'm a mom and writer, and I couldn't see it any other way.
ReplyDeleteWell, I wrote lots thru the years but didn't realize (duh) that I was to be a writer until later. Two things I dreamed of being: an airline stewardness and a detective (blame Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys).
ReplyDeleteGood question.

Always wanted to be a writer. From early childhood I wrote letters, neighborhood newsletters, poetry and short stories. Sometimes through my journey I've had an opportunity to write more and other times my writing has had to be put on hold, but I still want to be a writer.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to be a dancer. I've danced since I was three and love it. In the past few years I've had to put dancing on hold because of health problems, but I'm still hoping to get back to it soon.
My first couple of attempts at future employment was a nun or a gas station attendant.... finally I decided on millionaire, no clear way how just what! :O)
ReplyDeleteI was going to be a lawyer or an actress but started out in college as a teacher and like you, switched my first year to Psychology:)
ReplyDeleteHello I just stumbled across your blog. Happy Monday. When I was younger I wanted to first be a ballerina, then a teacher. Now I am on the fast track to becoming a psychologist. My how things change.
ReplyDeleteI used to admire gymnasts, baton twirlers, ice skaters, and cheerleaders. Oh, how I WANTED to be a cheerleader.
ReplyDeleteIn high school, I thought about going into nursing. I got married instead. Now, I do medical transcription from home which suits our life much, much better than a career in nursing. Cheerleading? Well, I do that, too. Just not with pom-poms and high kicks (although I can still do those).
Love ya.
Ha! I hear you!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a cashier because I thought it would be cool to push all those buttons. This was before bar-coding and scanners!
It's fun to read everyone's posts.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a lawyer.
Yep. I could argue and make a living.

I suspect there are many women who weren't planning on being preacher's wives - my sister and also our pastor's wife included.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a nurse until I spent four years as a volunteer candy striper. Then I leaned toward English teacher. Glad I finally settled on wife, mom, and writer.
Blessings,
Karen
The first career I remember wanting was to be a vet when I was about 8 because I loved animals so much and read all about them. Then I watched the vet take our cat's temperature. That was the end of that career aspiration.
ReplyDeleteHa! I never wanted to be a preacher's wife either! After growing up a preacher's kid I was determined to get as far away from the church as possible. Look at God:) I love His sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen -
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be a mommy, a nurse, a writer, a singer, Miss America (dream on, girl), a ballerina.
What did I end up doing? I'm an Administrative Assistant/Writer.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Well, I can remember wanting to be a nurse, then own a horse ranch. Neither of which happened. :P
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about it much, since being grown up never appealing to me much. When I did think of it, I liked the idea of teaching. Well, my whole family teaches, so that was quite natural. Also, anything creative we wanted to be, like an actress, or a writer, would be squashed as impractical by my very practical and wonderful parents.
ReplyDeleteOh honey I had several aspirations. I wanted to be a nurse, then a ballerina, (I'd stuff my sock and dance on my toes 'till my toes were raw). Then there was a hair dresser a pageant gal in my teens. In college I started out as an art major and ended up in education. Whew, that makes me tired! Heeehehehe!
ReplyDeleteYou have yourself the most beautiful day!!!
Jen:
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I wanted to be a nurse, then a teacher. I wound up in the Elementary Education Major in college. But, I had some problems.
Jen:
ReplyDeleteYes, God has a sense of humor. I got Ds in writing back in college.
Thank you for sharing your hearts with us, dear friends. In Heaven, I believe we will be whatever we want to be. Or perhaps Heaven is wanting to be what you are...
ReplyDeleteAs a child I read all the Alfred Payson Terhune dog stories and couldn't think of anything better than a life filled with dogs. Later I thought being a Librarian would be perfect, while my parents hoped I'd be an architectural engineer but I went into teaching instead. When my minister-to-be boyfriend proposed, I declared I could absolutely positively never be a minister's wife.
ReplyDeleteHah! I ended up being a minister's wife who was a teacher that loved books and writing, and bred, showed and trained dogs on the side. Who knew???
Hi Jen! I read your post on the Hartline blog today and had to come meet you on your personal blog. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, I wanted to be a nurse. That idea tanked when I got into high school biology class, lol.
Have a great weekend!
