Vacations of the Soul

When your mind is numb from grief and your soul is sore from responsibility, where do you go for a mental vacation?

How do you rest your heart?

I'd love to hear the ways the Shepherd leads you into
paths of peace.

  1. Sometimes a bath is calming or a massage if I can afford one. :O)

  3. I hang out with my family ~ laugh, cry, remember, pray, eat. . . and then I pull out my favorite book on loss and read it again. (A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittzer.)

  4. I find a piece of furniture or a wall to paint.

It heals. Not sure I'll ever understand why, but it does.

And whether I feel like it or not, I try to get into His Word.

  6. I get alone with God and let Him show me what He wants me to know right then. I'll just pull stuff out here and there. He always puts totether a program to help me.

  7. Funny, but I'm there right now as I just had to break my daughter's heart by telling her her beloved pet had died. It would be far easier if it were me that was broken hearted. I go to music, usually. It helps to hear someone else has been where I am and has put it into perfect words.

  8. Worship music. Typically it wrings the last bits of grief out (thus getting harder before it gets easier) but then there's peace in those words and that music I find hard to come by somewhere else. Have a blessed weekend!

  10. Jeanette:
I have learned to go to prayer. God has taken care of so many of my concerns.

  11. Hi Jen -

Prayer is important, as well as sharing with trusted friends. As I relate my pain, I discover the hidden blessings and focus on them.

    Thanks for the thoughtful post.

    Blessings,
    Susan

  12. I have to get away by myself... usually outdoors, and preferably to the oceanside or a lake. The sounds of the waves combined with my prayers always calm me. In lieu of that, I'll head into my office or bedroom, put on a favourite nature sounds CD and spend quiet time in prayer and reading. It sounds like escapism, I know, but I justify the 'alone' time by remembering our Lord also chose to go off by himself to a quiet place to pray.

Right now I'm re-reading Ann Voskamps "1000 Gifts" and am trying to learn to be thankful in all circumstances.

    Blessings to you,
    Carol

  13. For me, besides reading His word, it's nature. I love the water and God's creatures.

  14. I think its the time spent resting in Him that heals and urges me to go on.
