Depression and Writers

When I fell into an emotional snake pit after the release of my (humorous devotional!) book last week, I knew just whom to contact: my friend, and award-winning author, Jim Watkins. He has a superb article on writers and depression entitled Are Authors in Their Write Mind? on his Hope and Humor site.

If you're a writer or not, but sometimes fight depression, I believe Jim's article, along with a plate of chocolate and a prayer, will help you. It did me.

And... maybe knowing I love you today and everyday. Just the way you are.

  4. It seems to be the natural order of things. The question is "why". We strive, set goals and our dream comes true. Then we have a let down, feel unworthy and blue. That was last week, so, this week, jump up in the air, click your heels and shout out "Alleluia"! :)

  6. You? depressed? Must've skipped morning coffee and chocolate ;) Yep - I can relate. Those depressing days come - or days when I question my capabilities. Thank God for ... well ... GOD! :)

  10. A very helpful article! That, combined with chocolate and prayer, should be the perfect remedy. However, I've heard others say the same thing ... that once they've finished a now-very-familiar writing project and have switched to the publicizing stage, there's a big letdown. The best antidote seems to be to jump right into another writing project, so I hope you have one on the go already!

Glad your books arrived okay. Hope your signing tomorrow is a huge success.

  11. Thanks for all the hugs and kind words, buddies. I didn't mean this to be a pity party for myself, only to share a helpful article with you all. So, God turned it around and I was showered with blessings from you!

    You guys are the best...

  12. Hi Jen -

Your book arrived today! I hope that makes you smile. :)

I've noticed that after happy events there tends to be a let down. The goal has been achieved. Now, it's time to ask the Lord, "what's next?"

    Hugs,
    Susan

  13. Jeanette:
I can identify with some of the things Jim Watkins said in his article. I first started journaling to gain perspective because I was depressed.
