Almost by accident, my husband
and I discovered a fun way to add an extra spark of romance to our marriage. I
won’t pretend this little secret has played a major role in keeping us together
for 37 years, but it’s made the trip more fun.
What is it? Our Monthiversary. Every month, we
celebrate the day we were married by giving each other a little gift.
- A candy bar or package of cookies
- A few postage stamps
- A DVD from the bargain bin.
- A new kind of coffee
- A mystery book from a favorite author
We mostly
concentrate on consumables like food, so we don’t add to our piles of possessions.
And we never spend a lot. Sometimes we’ve found treasures at yard or church
rummage sales.
Even if your love
language isn’t gift giving, you might remember the day with a special meal, a
foot rub, or a note on your spouse’s pillow. The main idea is to say, “I
love you and I’m thinking of you on this day. You are precious to me.”
Try the
Monthiversary on your day this month and let me know how it goes. And to make it even
more fun…
If you celebrate
a Monthiversary and post it on my Facebook Author Page with a report of what
you did for your honey, I’ll send you a package of Chuckles Candy! Deadline is midnight,
October 14.
I’m looking forward to your ideas for adding a little romance to
your marriage. I may even steal some from you. Even us baby boomers need some
new spice from time to time. ..
That is fun! We likewise celebrate the day of our marriage every month but we call it "monthsary". I wanna join! :)
ReplyDeleteLea: That's great--you're the only other person I know who does this!
DeleteWhat a cute idea! I love it. Let me be honest though, I am terrible with dates. It's a little backwards. My husband is always remember the special days and I'm always forgetting. Maybe I need to mark my calender and try and remember something like this. This month we're celebrating 15 years. I am just ecstatic because we actually found a babysitter and are going out!!!

FringeGirl: Can you set an alarm on your computer or phone?
DeleteHappy 15th Anniversary--so happy for you!
A few postage stamps??!?!? lol
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!! I guess Eric and I will have to start this...
Fun stuff, Jeanette!!
He just better not give me postage stamps...lol!
Okay, so the postage stamps aren't that romantic, Loree. LOL!
DeleteI love this idea! I am going to set a reminder on my cell phone so I remember. Our date is the 19th, and next month it will be 32 years. Like you, I was a child bride.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Karen
Only five more days, Karen--congratulations! I hope you go out to eat for your special day!
DeleteThat's too cute!!! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jessica. If I recall correctly, you married young too, right? And you never seem to age in all the years I've known you.
DeleteSuch a sweet idea.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! If I ever get married again, I would definitely look at adopting your 'monthiversary' celebrations.
