I don't consider myself a packrat, but I do sometimes save stuff, especially when I know I'll be able to reuse it to make something else. And my e-box has no more than 20 or 25 messages at any time.
I've developed into a tosser since having kids. If I haven't used it in a year, it's likely on its way out... I try not to save too much stuff I know I won't use again. I donate when it's "good stuff" and toss the rest... I just have no patience with clutter, and with 2 kids, 5 dogs, 4 cats, and a myriad of smaller furries and fish, any excess stuff becomes a dust-collector. I hate dusting. lol! I am a saver when it comes to friends... and most of my knick-knacks and pictures and posters and so on were gifts. My home is decorated with love. :)
Jeanette, I love your banner! You have such a beautiful smile. :)
I am a tosser. I keep things that mean something to me of course. I have a baby bid, blanket and the hat my son came home from the hospital in 20 years ago. But several years ago I tossed my journals and now keep my writing lighter. Tossing the journals was a big step, so after that tossing was made much easier. I hate to toss clothes, so I normally give it away or donate it.
A lot of the items carry sentimental value. When I shared the struggle of letting go, a friend suggested I take a picture of the item first. I'd always have a record of it without the clutter.
Jeanette - I'm going to write first, and then see what others say. I'm a tosser. I especially toss emails. I can't stand to let lists bug me. If something is special on my email or blog, I print it or write it out. I toss leftovers if I happen to dig around in the refrigerator, which isn't often. I toss (give away) clothes, but then I don't spend a lot for them.
I just read Susan's method of taking a picture and keeping it instead of the bulky item. Yes, it works fabulously for me. I wish I had thought of this thing sooner.
I probably toss too easily and then sometimes regret it.
ReplyDeleteI've done that too, Barb. But mostly I've regretted things I hang onto for too long.
DeleteI am a little bit of both, lol
ReplyDeleteI can see that, Denise--saving some, tossing others, depending on the items.
DeleteI am too much a saver. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteLinda: That's a good amount to keep in down to, Linda. I sometimes clean mine out all at once, then start fresh.

Aha. Kids and pets will do it, Mary!
DeleteThanks for the day-maker!

I'm not a hoarder, but I'm sure a saver.

And did that method work, Susan?

My guess is that you are a saver.
