Chocolate-Filled
Christmas Bon-Bons
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 dozen chocolate kisses or chocolate stars
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
If using chocolate kisses, cut the tops off before starting. You will have to force yourself to eat the tops, or give them to a spouse or child.
Mix shortening, sugars until fluffy. Add the egg, extracts and beat well. Add flour, baking powder and salt and mix well. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Press each ball around a chocolate star or kiss until it is completely enclosed. (If dough is soft and sticky, add an additional 1/4 cup flour.)
Bake for 10-12 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets. Decorate with icing and/or sprinkles and jimmies in Christmas colors.
Recipe will make 3 1/2 dozen.
What is your favorite Christmas cookie recipe? Have you started baking yet?
Oooh, I think I actually have the ingredients for this!!!! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll force my kiddos to eat the tops...such a hardship. *grin*
My family insists I make Cookie Coffee Cakes every year. It is a yeast cookie that looks and tastes like little cinnamon rolls. It's rather time consuming to make them, but I do it because my family likes them so much.
ReplyDeleteOh man, a new one I'll have to try. I love trying new cookies. I love the classic chocolate chipper. My kids do too. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThose sound just about easy enough that even I could do 'em! Up to now, MY favorites are Archway's Mexican Wedding Cookies! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make these! They sound and look good!
ReplyDeleteOur favorite is still the Nestles Chocolate Chips. We have added our own special touch to it.
We make oatmeal cookies minus the raisins and add choco chips.
We also make pineapple cookies, snowballs with mini choco chips, peanut butter cookies, and decorated tea cookies.
Will be baking next week...I'm adding yours to the list.
Oh, those look good. I baked up a frenzy over Thanksgiving, and will start with some more next week. We love to make pan de polvo, which is a Mexican wedding cookie, but is difficult to get just right and takes much practice.
ReplyDeleteThose look delightful. Who wouldn't love a surprise bit of chocolate?
ReplyDeleteI have to confess I gave up baking a long time ago. But this recipe looks inviting.
ReplyDeletePeanut butter chocolate chip.
ReplyDeleteI love brownies but your recipe is a must-try!
ReplyDeleteI love anything with chocolate...well, almost anything. I draw the line at chocolate covered ants. :)
ReplyDeleteThese look yummy. Thanks for the recipe.
