Food Love

After receiving tons of comments on a recent Facebook post about diverse tastebuds, I realized how seriously we take our food:

  • Jesus' first miracle was transforming water into wine.

  • Holidays are always associated with the foods that accompany them: turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving, chocolates or heart-shaped cookies for Valentine's Day, ham or turkey and pies for Christmas, etc.

  • Both men and women consider themselves blessed and/or lucky if they marry a spouse who's a great cook.

  • Prison riots have started as the result of lack of proper food.

  • Terms of endearment spring from favorite sweets: Cutie Pie, Honey Lamb, Tootsie, Sugar, etc.

So... do you, like my Facebook friends, take your food very seriously? And the foods you dislike, do you hate them, or simply avoid them? What are your favorite foods?

  1. Oh, I like to eat, alright....but guess I don't take food very seriously. Food is a small (but very necessary) part of my life. I have a hard time understanding folks on facebook for instance who post primarly about food and food prep...

(Hope I'm not a Debbie Downer here....but you asked!)

  2. I like food...for the most part, all kinds! I avoid the few things I don't care for. I especially enjoy food I don't have to prepare myself. It's not that I don't like to cook, it's that I enjoy other's cooking more.

  3. Hi Jeanette! Well, I don't know if I take food super-serious, but I sure know what I like. And don't like! I can't do spicy foods, and coconut? No thanks.
Hand over the chocolate and no one gets hurt. Oh, and does coffee count?
    Have a great day!

  4. Jeanette: From time to time I have trouble with certain spices in foods. I have given up eating fried foods. That cuts down the size of the menu. I also had to cut way back on dairy products. I do like grilled chicken breast and baked potato with a tossed salad. When we have hamburger we use ground sirloin and we drain it before I get to eat it. All this besides not getting caffeine.

  5. Probably before parenting I did. But now with everyone going a dozen different directions each night, it is more of what can I heat up quickly and still have it taste good? Maybe my pickiness will return someday.

  6. Favorite foods-steak, baked potatoes, pinto beans, turnip greens, potatoe salad, cornbread, fried chicken, meatloaf. I cannot stand fish, or liver.
