"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." Thomas Edison
"The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say." Anais Nin
"I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business." Michael J. Fox

"God loves us not for our virtues, but for our needs." Paul Tournier
Which is your favorite? Why?
Psst! If you haven't already entered my "Prizes for Everyone" contest, you stiil have 'til tomorrow at 4:30 to enter. See Monday's post.
I think I really like Edison's. So true! Thanks Jen. :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these quotes! They are so encouraging! As I'm gearing up to start another novel, I like this one: "The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say." Anais Nin What a great reminder to give words to the unique, difficult, and challenging situations and descriptions! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love the Joyce Meyer one. Sometimes things do get hard and we give up too early! :O)
ReplyDelete"Just because something is hard doesn't mean it's not God's will for you. Just because something is hard doesn't mean you can't do it."
ReplyDeleteThis one is my favorite because many times we think life should be easy if we are doing God's will.
The Michael J. Fox one b/c Anne L.B. wrote that on my blog just days ago and I haven't stopped thinking of it since. Also, b/c she's been a blogging spiritual mentor for me.

Edison hits me this morning because I have that "too much to do and so little time" feeling today. I want to do too many things and I know that, but I don't want to give up anything. :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you know I am a great-grandmother as of yesterday. I just bought a book entitled"Im Too Young to be This Old" :-)
I love the Joyce Meyer quote. It reminds me of that old story about the man seeing a caterpillar struggling to get out of its cocoon, so he cuts the cocoon and frees it...only it wasn't time yet. It was the struggles that prepared the caterpillar to become a butterfly. Sometimes these struggles are what make us stronger...
ReplyDeleteI like the one from Edison. It just goes to show why it's always worthwhile to keep trying.
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I need to re-read these! I love that God loves me for y needs, I have so many.. ;)
ReplyDeleteI really like that M. J Fox one. It's very thoughtprovoking as to what people think as perfection and excellence.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I like Edison's because I've heard it many others ways before so I think I'd better pay more careful attention!
ReplyDeleteI also like Meyer's because I am the first to whine that I can't do something because it's hard and sometimes I even say, "This can't be God's will for me!"
smooches,
Larie
Hi Jen -
ReplyDeleteWhile I like all of the quotes, the Joyce Meyer one is my favorite. Something worthwhile usually requires a lot of effort.
Thanks for the encouraging words.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Thanks for your input, ladies. I keep a book handy just for quotes, and when I come across one that inspires me, in it goes for future help.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping up with me when I was gone.
Blessings,
Jen
I like MJ Fox's quote! Good for any perfectionist to hear. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to go with MJ Fox - what great perspective! That's a great nugget to think about today :)
ReplyDeleteI like the Michael J. Fox one because it is short and ironically, almost "perfect." I was also surprised that he said it. I guess he is a very deep person.
ReplyDeleteI like Joyce Meyer. Sometimes God will is hard, but always just and good.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
I'm going to go with Michael J. Fox's. I never realized before that I felt excellence was perfection, Michael sure corrects me on that!
ReplyDeleteJoyce Meyer's is my favorite. God called me off my job. I am writing but not making a living from it. He has provided. Somedays like now when I have needs I go to Him just to make sure that I am where He put me. My doubt is so tiny. Especially when I ask him to confirm what he told me and he sends me that quote from Joyce.
ReplyDeleteI liked Michael J. Fox's quote too.
