A Two-Fold What About YOU? Birthstones
Every Monday I ask a question, to get to know YOU better. Ready for today’s? What is your birthstone? Do you like it?
Like half the population, I’m an August baby—nine months earlier is cold in most of the world—so my birthstone is the peridot. For my first forty-two years, I disdained the yellowish-green stone, considering it lacking in glamour. Then my boss, who shared my birth month, changed my mind.
“Did you know," she said in tones dripping with mystery, "that before they discovered diamonds, ancient kings used peridots as their most valuable jewels?” Whether it was true or not, I didn’t care. That was enough to change my mind from indifference to affection.
BTW, you pronounce the name of this stunning beauty PERR-ih-doh. Glamorous, isn’t it?
Your turn…

Mine's an amethyst. I've always liked purple. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm an August baby too! I used to not like the pale green, but it has grown on me. :)
ReplyDeleteDiamonds...goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteCool fact. Didn't know that one. I'm an opal baby and I suppose they are okay.
ReplyDeleteMuch more of a sapphire girl if you want to know the truth and we should always speak truth when discussing jewelry. ;)

Ruby. Kind of goes along with the Proverbs 31 woman, nicknamed "Mrs. Far Above Rubies" by a friend of mine. So that's my confession, to be far above rubies:)
ReplyDeleteMine is emerald. I never really liked it that much, even though my favorite color is green.
ReplyDeleteI think when I was younger I had very little interest in wearing jewelry and wearing green jewelry didn't seem very practical to me :) But now...it's kind of grown on me.
My birthstone is a pearl and yes, I love it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, andrea
I'm a Perr-ih-doh! :) :)
ReplyDeleteMine is a Ruby!! I have 3 girls and one is peridot, ruby, and diamond. They look great together on my mother's ring.
ReplyDeleteI'm a diamond, and no, I don't really like it. I'm not a big diamond fan. I'd love to be something different!
ReplyDeletePraying with you,
ReplyDeleteandrea
Hi, Jeanette~
ReplyDeleteMy birthday is in February, as well as my son's and one of my daughters, and our birthstone is amethyst, which works great because we all love the amazing shade of purple!
My husband, mom, son-in-law, sister, and mother-in-law, all share with you the peridot stone.
Blessings~
Laura
Mine is topaz, of which I love the yellow stone. I have a necklace with yours and mine in a pendant. They go well together. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I am Jessica's I think--March--is that the blue stone????
ReplyDeleteMy birthstone is Aquamarine, and I love it. The blue of the stone is so pale and clear - delicate.
ReplyDeleteI like the blue topaz better, because of it's deeper blue, but the Aquamarine is lovely.
Mine is a saphire. oops did I spell that right? I like it plenty and lucky for me it comes in lot's of pretty coors not just blue!
ReplyDeleteAmethyst! And I love it - people have given me the most beautiful amethyst jewelry for my birthdays :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen -
ReplyDeleteI'm amethyst, which I love. Purple is my favorite color.
Blessings,
Susan :)
I'm a February baby, like so many others here. I love it, because purple has been my favorite color for many years now. We have lots of purple in our family; my son & husband are both alexandrite (one of the June ones), which can be a pale purple. My daughters are emerald (my other favorite color) and topaz.
ReplyDeleteJen:
ReplyDeleteI am a March baby. I like the Aquamarine. It's a cooling color. My son's is garnet (January).
Is that an opal at the top in your picture? It's stunning. My birthstone is a diamond. I don't particularly like it because it is bland when in with other birthstone displays. Now a real big diamond would be lovely, but I'm not going to get one of those. I'd rather have an opal or an aquamarine or a blue topaz.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes it is most beautiful. Mine is sapphire and I do like it. My birthstone ring broke in half shortly before I lost the diamond out of my wedding ring. Right now I am ringless.....I miss my baubles!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a terrific Tuesday!!!
Love peridot!
ReplyDeleteI'm a November baby with gold topaz. Yuck! I've never liked it.
Mine's an aquamarine. I could never afford it so have a blue topaz!!!
ReplyDeleteGood substitute, I think!!1
I'm another August/peridot baby, and so are my two daughters. November must be a *very* cold month here. :)
ReplyDeleteCarol
Diamond and I love them!!!!
