Yankee Doodle Dandy Flag Cake recipe

I'm all about simple.
This Yankee Doodle Dandy cake recipe for your 4th of July celebration only has seven ingredients, and one is water! Isn't it lovely?

Prepare a boxed cake mix--I like to use Red Velvet for this recipe.

Pour into a 9 x 13 pan and bake as directed.

Frost with white icing.

For stars, use blueberries or navy blue M & M's; for stripes, cut fresh strawberries into slivers.

Enjoy!

  1. I LOVE those cakes, Jeanette! But I've only ever tasted them with yellow cake mix. Red velvet would be even better. Viva la chocolate! ;)

Have a wonderful 4th of July!

  4. Jeanette, you are SUCH a woman after my own heart!! I love the recipe idea and the simplicity! Now, can I sneak it into the family 4th of July party and not have them notice when my MIL is a professional baker? *Jaime winces*

It looks pretty and sounds yummy.
I've done ice cream sundaes with the blue berries and strawberries. But it's not as pretty as the cake.

  12. Ooh, now the M&Ms would be a good alternative. And I can always go for a punch of chocolate!
