Scars of Unknown Origin




I have a scar in my left eyebrow. No one can see it but me.


I am the only one who knows it’s there. Well, before today, I was.

The odd thing is, I have no idea how it got there. It is a scar of unknown origin.

It doesn’t hurt, but I do wonder—where did you come from, little scar? I’m glad no one can see you but me. You are my little secret.
Now you know. But I’m okay with that. I think I like it that you know. It makes me feel more comfortable with you, actually.



I think emotional scars are harder to hide than the physical kind.

And it doesn’t always help to know where they originated. Sometimes that can make the scar seem bigger.

I had a friend once who used to say, “You can take the nail out of a board, but you will always have a hole left. And Jesus can heal you emotionally, but there will always be scars.”

I disagree with her. I think Jesus can fill in the holes left in our hearts, from known or unknown origins.

And you? Do you have any hidden scars? Or scars of unknown origin?  Has Jesus healed you, or is He in the process of healing you?

P.S. Thank you to all who prayed for my recovery from foot surgery. I am healing well!

    God, I feel, could heal in seconds but we take our own time..

    I know Jesus can heal those scars. I met some wonderful coworkers this week and already I feel my scars from before are shrinking away:)

    I think the biggest sadness I see is people wanting to leave the nail in and not letting the healing process even begin to take place. I pray for their freedom today! :O)

    Yes, I have have MANY emotional scars and YES, HE has been faithful to heal them ALL! I like to believe my scars are now beautiful by the healing hand of GOD...HE has turned them into something valuable...something that HE and HE alone can use!

    I don't have any big emotional scars. I was very blessed to grow up in a loving home. But I think Jesus can heal scars. I don't think we ever forget, but we can look back with understanding and acceptance and forgiveness.

    I am glad your foot is healing! Yes, oh yes, Jesus can heal scars. He's working wonders with me right now :) and he keeps working even when I don't realize it. If that doesn't make me feel loved, I don't know what will :D Thanks for this post.

    I have a couple scars on my face from when I had chicken pox as a child. The thing is, I don't even notice them anymore. That's what I want my emotional scars to look like...After Jesus has worked his "magic" on them, they won't be visible to me anymore.

    I agree with you Jeanette, I believe Jesus can fill any hole and heal any wound. If He couldn't, He wouldn't be God!

    I'm so glad things are healing up on your foot the way they should.
    This is a wonderful post. I have both kinds of scars. I'm so thrilled that Jesus has healed and is continuing to heal any emotional ones. He's the best.

    Glad you are on the mend!

    You know what I find interesting about scars? Women obsess over them and find ways to hide them. Men reveal them, flaunt them, and use them like trophies or medals of honor.

    And it's harder to see our children's scars than our own, IMO.

    As I study more, understanding who God is and what he does, my scars are healing through His forgiveness and love. I also have heard that a hole is left when hurts are done. What a great reminder that Jesus can heal all.

    It takes time; that's what I've learned. Years, in fact. He always seeks our permission, too, before really addressing those deep hurts.

    I agree with Rhonda. It often takes years to recover from hurts. Forgiving the one who hurt you is often the key to starting the process.

    i have a couple of scars on my arm from different accidents and I agree with Sarah in that I hardly notice them anymore.

    Amazing how that is. And amazing how Jesus can heal us the same way. This is one of my favorite posts of yours!

    Wow, I have missed this place!
    Hmmm. Even Jesus has his nail scars, so I think some scars may be with us till that new body.
