Colors that Tell

I have a thing for colors. You too? I love color combinations in fabric for clothing and upholstry, in jewelry, and in nature. I even have favorite colors of cats!

As a writer, I enjoy finding new ways to use color:

Scarlet heat creeping up my neck;
Mauve and rose washing across the horizon;
The blackness of a bitter memory.

If you write, how do you use color to enhance your scenes? If you don't write, how does color enrich your life? What are your favorite colors?

  4. I love colors in nature! My favorites are the purplish, pinkish, with a tint of yellow sunset. As you can see, I don't know how to describe them, but I love looking at a colorful sunset.

  5. Colors are so powerful. They make you buy stuff. They can cause you to feel serene or get you extited. I love how different colors please me for different things. My house is neutral, but I like black and white clothes with some red and bright tones to add flair. Love this subject and this post.

  6. So many! My favorite is cobalt blue. But there are lots of runners up. I love my garden and always plot colors to put next to each other. Someone just told me she loves my house because it's "whimsical"--I use color in ways people don't usually venture. (Sometimes it fails!)And in books? Yes, I love to describe things in ways that make people feel the things, and that includes color.

    I adore colors and it's fabulous when an author nails it. I'm fascinated when author's describe eyes uniquely.

  11. Love the way colors make us feel about certain things. I love studying book covers and how the use of colors affect our moods when thinking about certain titles.

    Thanks for making me think about this today!

  13. Jeanette:
    I had a color analysis done back in the 1980s. I am a winter. I like bright colors.
    I don't have much chance to use color in my writing.
