I Don't Have Time to Pray!

Have you ever found yourself thinking or saying, "I don't have time to pray!"? If you mean long hours on your knees in the dinky hours of the morning, perhaps your'e right.

You Can Do This

But you can train yourself to utilize snippets of time to talk to the Lord as you go about your day, using what I call Prayer Cues, and keep in contact with Jesus all day long.

                      How it Works

This is how this simple, effective method works:

Use activities you do every day as reminders to pray for specific people and things. When I make my bed each morning, I say Psalm 91, asking for protection; when I take a shower, I pray for my marriage; when I get dressed, I confess healing verses; when I put my make-up on, I recite prosperity scriptures; when I brush my teeth, I pray for my kids.

            Simpler than you thought

I'm not saying you shouldn't spend hours at a time on your knees, or take some extended time alone, seeking the Lord for help and wisdom. But if you feel like you need more face-to-face time with God, and can't seem to fit in those huge chunks, try Prayer Cues.

Can you think of any cues, and how you can use them to remind yourself to pray for specific people? I'd love to hear your ideas!

  1. I like all of yours! My smart phone helps me be prayerful by easy access to scripture vs and prayers in my document app and in my calendar.

  2. I really like your idea of Prayer Cues. I can use those cues in addition to my prayer time in my car on the way to work. I have the radio off and just talk out loud to my Heavenly Father.

    Thanks for your encouragement.

  3. Excellent advice, Jen! There are more "pockets" of time in our day than we think, we just need to look for them. Years ago, I heard a radio speaker say how she prayed for her family when folding laundry and other little tasks. I like to think that praying like this is part of our daily walk.

Hope you are having a great time with your family! :)

  4. I love your cues! I tend to pray as I wake up of if I wake in the middle of the night for others as it takes my mind of me.

  5. Excellent suggestion Jeanette. I am very much a people watcher. Learning to combine my observations with opportunities to pray for specific needs of others has been a good fit for me.

  6. I read this in a book once (I'm sorry I don't remember which one) to pray for my children as I fold their clothes. I love doing this.

  8. Love this post.

When I meet someone who is hurting or sick, I lift them up and pray for them right then. Most times, it's in my mind between God and I, and they don't even know that I'm praying for them.

Sometimes God gives me the stronger nudge to offer to pray with them, or over them.

  9. Great tip, Jen. I had never considered prayer cues. I usually say a short prayer in the morning for patience and guidance, and then a longer prayer at night asking for forgiveness for my lack of patience and hasty behavior throughout the day. ;-)

Good suggestion. Thanks for your post!

  10. We live in an economically depressed area. This condition predates the 2008 financial chaos. As Hubby and I drive across town, I see a lot of properties-residential, commercial and what were industrial- with for sale signs on them. I pray for the property and for all those who may be interested in them.
When I am on the phone with a friend and I sense the need to pray with him or her. I ask permission and then lift their need before the Lord.
When I am reading on Face Book and a friend has posted a need, I post a prayer for them. I might forget to pray for them if I were to tell them I will.

  11. I saw something similar to this advice in a book lately. Those cues do make you remember what and when to shoot up a 10 second prayer and He hears each one. :O)

  12. Hi Jen -

When someone comes to mind, I automatically pray for them. So often, I discover they were going through a tough time just as I was praying.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  14. Thanks for all these great ideas, you guys! I like it that some of you pray for people on the spot as the Lord brings them to mind. Don't you wish when someone says, "I thought of you the other day" that they had taken it a step further and prayed for you?

  15. Shoot, my hairdresser, me and another gal in the salon had a prayer meetin' right then and there.

    When opportunity presents itself baby!!!

    Great ideas sweetie!

God bless ya and have a blissful day! :o)

BTW: My email is loaded with prayer request through my blog each and every day. What an outreach...who knew?
