What Angers You?

In my quest to grow up--ouch, ouch, ouch!--I'm reading Dr. Gregory Jantz's book, Every Woman's Guide to Managing Anger. Full of wisdom, aha! moments, and helpful exercises, it's a valuable resource. I highly recommend it to women and men alike who are seeking answers to managing this God-given emotion.

Yes, anger is an emotion God wired into us, to use for good. Not all anger is wrong. Aimed correctly, it has great potential for bringing about postive change.

So. . . what angers you? Have you found creative ways to manage anger? How can we use righteous anger for good?

  1. The area I work on with anger is mainly on the highway where people can be so casually dangerous in risking others' lives. Thank you for the reminder that God wired anger into us, for us to use properly.

  3. I can relate Jeanette. Not getting enough sleep causes me to be impatient and then everything angers me.

And, it is something that is for the most part controllable--get myself into bed and be better at time management.

    Enjoy your weekend Jeanette.

    1. Slamdunk: I understand. I'm kinda grumpy when I'm tired, too. I use caffeine and chocolate to help!

    1. Oh yes, Wendy, those anger me, too. And I know they anger God! He made us to love and understand.

  5. I am angry when people use others in a harmful way (abuse, cheating, lying, any form of trickery.) Like Wendy, I am working one positive ways to handle my anger.

  6. There are some physical reasons for anger as well. I recently learned that an impending migraine attack can trigger irritability/snappishness. Interesting.

I've also observed that fear can manifest itself as anger. When I get angry, I try to stop and identify why I'm reacting. Then, I pray, forgive whoever is bugging me, and ask the Lord to help me respond in a right way.

We sure have plenty of opportunities to practice.

    1. Susan: I never knew about the migraine thing! Thanks for sharing that.

I agree that fear can trigger anger. If we feel threatened, anger is a way to protect ourselves.

  8. Sounds like a good book. Yes, anger has it's place, I just wish it wasn't at my place. :) Listening/talking to the Lord, usually is the only way for me to rid the crazy thing.
