Do You Go Back?

Since coming aboard the Face Book train, which I am enjoying BTW, my blogging time has been curtailed. I hate that. Blogging is one of my favorite pastimes. I only hop around you guys’ sites for about an hour a day, but I would do more if I didn’t rely on this silly paycheck to fund trips to my grandkids, my writing career, and my four kitties. I need a solution, one that will allow me more time to visit your blogs and comment on them without forcing me to arise at 4 a.m. The only thing I can think of is to not reply to everyone’s comments on my own blog. But that seems too rude and ungrateful. So you tell me:

How many of you go back and look at the replies to your comments which you’ve posted on others’ blogs?

Would you feel slighted if I did not respond to your comments?

I want to reply to everyone who takes the time to comment on my posts, because I realize you could be spending your time elsewhere. It is an honor to have you here. However, if I don’t comment, that will free more time for me to visit your blogs and talk to fascintating you. What do you think? I value your input. And Thanks! I appreciate you all.

  1. I'd like to go back, but I rarely do because of time. Certain times, if I've asked a question I'll go back to see, but if I don't ask anything, then I never return unless I'm wanting to read others responses.

I don't always reply to comments, I hope that doesn't come across as rude, but I simply don't have the time and unless there's a question, I doubt they're going to return to that comment post anyway.

    Glad you are enjoying Facebook!!

  2. Hmmmm, I understand this dilemma. I feel the same way about replying to comments, but unless I ask a question in my comment, I rarely go back and I don't sign up to have all the comments sent to my e-mail. YOu could not reply, that would save time.
So Facebook is taking up time, huh? I like Facebook alot but I don't spend a lot of time on there. Unlike blogs, I don't scoot around everyone's page looking for status updates. Is that rude, do you think? I'm not sure what facebook etiquette is...

Good luck finding the right blogging fit for you. :-)

  3. Hi Jen,
I've had to give up replying to comments too. Especially during the summer when my days are so busy with shuttling the kids to various activites. I will sometimes try to reply with a group comment, or answer questions. And sometimes, even respond to a comment via an email. And because of time constraints, I rarely have time to go back and read responses that others leave to my comments. So, I would definitely understand your feeling about not responding personally to each comment!

And as for FB, so far I've kept my time very minimal. If I post a comment, sometimes I comment back on things people say, sometimes not. And others are the same way. I don't think there's pressure to respond, just when you want to. But, then I'm fairly new to FB too! So far no one has dropped me as a friend, so hopefully I'm safe in what I'm doing!

  4. I usually reply via e-mail to certain ones that have commented on my site, it depends on the nature of the post and comment.

Rarely do I go back to a site I've visited to see if the blog owner has commented, it just takes too much time. When I do get the kids in bed early, then I go back.

I would not feel slighted at all if you did not comment back. I'm sure that you would read each comment and then decide if a comment back is warranted and you could just e-mail the specific person.

    smooches,
    Larie

  6. I love that you are even asking this question. That right there is why I come to your blog so often.

I would not feel slighted. I understand everyone is on such a time crunch. I did things in reverse order and have found now I neglect FB and spend more time blogging. :D

  7. I know exactly what you're saying. Blogging is a fun and social pasttime, but it doesn't write my books, you know? Sometimes I check back to read comment responses when I leave one, but many times I barely have time to leave the comments, let alone check back! Sad, because I love the personal contact with other bloggers.

This is something I'm tweaking in my own life too. Good luck!

  8. I go back and read all my comments, but I normally do not respond to them.

    Maybe I should?

  9. This poses a huge question in my mind and I go round and round with no good answer. Why do we blog? Some do it to build a platform and build a readership. Some do it for the social interaction. Some visit blogs to learn. Some visit blogs to socialize. If you are in it to get people to your blog and build a platform, you leave comments on others blogs. If you are in it for the social aspect, you leave comments on others blogs. But do we, or should we, expect comments back? Should we respond to those left on ours? Well, if people don't come back and check responses, why should we leave them? They won't know I didn't respond, right?

I don't know...I struggle with the whole thing. Sometimes it seems self-serving. I'm not anywhere near published and don't expect to be any time soon, so why should I blog? If for the social interaction, wouldn't that be commenting back and forth and having interaction? I don't think many people subscribe to comments like I do, because there is not much back and forth. I guess Twitter could be used for that or even FB.

Can you tell I am confused??? lol

  10. I always felt bad when bloggers commented on my comments because rarely do I go back to that post. I will click and email someone something if I want to respond. I really think most people don't comment.

  11. Okay, then. Survey seems to say I'm not a totally rude, mean blogger if I don't comment on your comments. Thank you!

This will allow me more time to go on YOUR beautiful blogs and comment. Hooray!!!

    Love you, Jen
