Why You Gotta Love Redheads

Our youngest grand aughter, Grace, is a redhead, too!
Did you know that November 5 is Redhead Day? You just gotta love redheads. Why? Because we make everyone around us feel smart when we do ditzy stuff.  You may agree with me after you read this dumb thing I did at work a few years ago.

One of the customers at the office supply store I used to manage is a lovely lady named Faye. She is deaf, but can read lips and communicates well.

Faye stopped in one day to order a product we didn't keep in stock. When I called her place of business to let her know it was in, Ruthie answered. "May I please speak with Faye?" I said.

"Noooo..." said Ruthie. "Did you forget that Faye is deaf?"

"Aha. Yes, I did." We yukked it up until you could hear us laughing in Heaven, but I was SO glad I wasn't on Skype. Ruthie would have seen me put my head under the desk. Or at least on the desk.

The moral of this story is: You can lead a redhead to a phone, but you can't make her think. But you still gotta love us, because we make doing ditzy things look so cute!

Do you have any redheads in your family?

A Dumb Thing I Did at Work

Are you tired yet of reading about dumb things I do and more dumb things? If not, here's another...

One of the customers of the office supply store I manage is a lovely lady named Faye. She is deaf, but can read lips and communicates well.

Faye stopped in recently to order a product we don't keep in stock.

Today on Following My King, my lovely friend Cecelia is interviewing me! I'd be more tickled than a bumble bee on a finkleberry bush if you joined us!

And... I may be offline for a few days--we are visiting our daughter and her family in Tulsa, OK to get our grandkids fix.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day,

Two Dumb Things I Did at the Inland Northwest Christian Writers Conference

Eddie Jones, my publisher, and me
I did another dumb thing—actually two—at the Inland Northwest Christian Writers Conference directed by Jan Cline, where I spoke at last weekend. I put the wrong release date on the bookmarks I designed to take with me and promote my book--2102, ninety years ahead...

and I used up 20 minutes of my 50 minute class having the attendees introduce themselves and say what kind of writing they did. Sigh.

I spend nine months preparing for the class, which is ironically titled Time Management Secrets for Part-time Writers, make a 22 -page syllabus, and then use my time unwisely. Two sighs.
Conference director, Jan Cline, and I
James Rubart, Patti Lee, and Eddie Jones

My heart was in the right place. I love people, and wanted them to feel welcome in my class. But next time, I’ll just have them raise their hands to answer a few questions before I teach:

Who has kids at home? Who works an outside job? Who feels better about themselves when someone else does dumb stuff?

Naked Nails; Another Dumb Thing I Did

My fingernails will be naked and short when I speak next month at the Inland NW Christian Writers Conference in Spokane Washington. Why?

Another Dumb Thing
Because I did a dumb thing last summer when I attended the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference. I bought fake nails. Normally, I keep my nails fairly short and don’t polish them—it takes time I’d rather spend writing, reading, or playing Mexican Train dominoes with my honey. But I thought since I was pitching two books and meeting many people I wanted to impress, I should look professional and classy.

Not So Classy
While thumbing through my portfolio to grab a sample article, a business card, or a speaking brochure, those bulky nails got in the way and made me look more like a clown that a class act. I was embarrassed, but couldn’t take time from my fifteen-minute sessions with editors to say, “Hold on while I rip these nails off.”

Do you like your nails naked and short or painted and long?

I Did Another Dumb Thing

My post entitled I Did a Dumb Thing was so popular that I decided to do it again. The post, not the dumb thing. If I can continue to do dumb things, I may even make it a regular feature of the blog...

Believe me, I did not look this great

Oops!

When I was thirty-five and teaching History at a Christian School in Hermosa Beach, CA, I decided I needed to start coloring my hair. It never occured to me that the hair color would blend with my natural color to make the final hue. In my case, maroon!

Let's Get Down to History

I'd spent my last four dollars on the hair color, so couldn't go back to the store for more and color over the boo-boo that looked like a chrysanthemum in bloom. When I walked into the school building Monday morning, several kids asked, "Did you color your hair, Mrs. L?" Finally, I made an announcement to the whole class: Yes, I colored my hair, that's why it looks so fruity, remember this when you get gray hair and learn from my mistake, now let's get down to History.

Have you ever had a hair coloring snafu? How did you fix it?

I Did a Dumb Thing and prize giveaway

I did a dumb thing. When I ordered some imprinted pens to help market my book, I gave them the wrong title! I told them:

Two Scoops of Grace with Sprinkles on Top (which is NOT my book) instead of

Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top (which is my book).

I would say "I can't believe I did that!" except that I can believe it. I am always doing ditzy things that amaze even me. This one takes the cake, ahem, the ice cream cake. Ahahahaaaaaaa, made myself laugh!

Anyone want a free pen? If so, put your hand over your heart and say, "Even though this pen is imprinted wrong, when Jeanette's book comes out in the Spring, I will look for TWO SCOOPS OF GRACE WITH CHUCKLES ON THE TOP,  not Sprinkles."

Okay? If you did that, send your addy to jeanettelevellie(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll send you a (wrongly imprinted) pen. And, if you follow the link above and click LIKE to like my book's FB page, I'll send you a second one to give a friend. But you have to tell me you liked me, and you must promise to tell the friend it's CHUCKLES, not sprinkles. Okay? Okay. Good, I feel so much better now!

Did you ever do anything amazingly dumb?
