A Fun Time-saving Idea!

Two days before my birthday, and I'm looking for all the time-saving ideas I can collect. Here is one I discovered by "accident" recently:

Read your snail mail standing up, next to a trash can. You will read faster, and can throw away all the junque mail immediately, instead of letting it clutter up your end table, kitchen counter, or bathroom floor.

Now that you've saved some time, go play with your kids, text a friend, or watch God paint the sky.

Enjoy your life. You are worth it.

Do you receive more mail than you'd like? How do you keep on top of it? How about email?

I Love This New Time Saving Tool

My new toy, ah... Tool
Have you seen and heard of Standing Desks? Thanks to a commercial about the value of them from Bob Hostetler of The Desperate Pastor blog, I bought one, and do I love it!

Since it's height-adjustable, it keeps your back and shoulders from aching. You also burn more calories standing than sitting--another lovely benefit.

But my favorite perk is that I accomplish more with this handy little tool. As you can see from my dry erase board on one side and the huge calendar on the other, I'm all about finding tools that help me utilize my time better.

I don't know the scientific reason for this phenomenon--if I think better on my feet than my bum, enjoy the variety of alternating sitting with standing, or am just excited that I have a new gadget.

The reason behind it doesn't matter as much as the end result--more writing, less staring out the window or wrestling with the cats for keyboard space.

The cats haven't discovered it yet!

Do you have a standing desk, or know anyone who has one? Do you know the reason they cause more productivity?

Multitasking, Juggling, or Just Plain Craziness

  • When is multitasking productive?
  • When is it unwise to juggle several jobs at one time?
  • Do you-as a parent of little ones, a writer, an artist, a home-based business owner--find it more challenging to multitask as you grow older?
What Works for YOU?
In preparation for the upcoming workshop I'm teaching at the Inland Northwest Christian Writers Conference in March, I'm researching Time Management, and would like to know what multitasking techniques work for you. Or, if you are someone who needs to focus on one task at a time, how do you keep your focus and avoid going bonkers when you're interrupted and/or distracted?

7 Time Savers for Writers--or anyone serious about making a difference in the world

I know you are not average, ordinary, common folk who don’t care whether your life counts or not. You are serious about your passions, and want to prove it by making a positive difference in the world. Here are some time-savers for destined-for-success individuals like you:

1. Get up earlier. Even fifteen minutes can help you get a jump-start on the day, and add extra motivation to your dreams.

2. Pray. I know you know that you reap whatever you sow (Gal. 6:7). If you spend time worshiping God and praying for others and yourself, He will give you back more time to pursue your aspirations (or just wash the dog!).

3. Turn off the TV. If you need entertainment, read. Readers are leaders.

4. Make friends with visionaries and positive thinkers and talkers. Their lives will inspire you, and help you make the best use of your time.

5. Stay away from doubters and negative talkers. They will drain the energy from you.

6. Unless you find cooking energizing, use simple recipes that require few ingredients and short prep time.

7. Delegate.

Any I missed, that you’ve found helpful in saving time?
